You Beauty Box - January Review and February Picks

Monday, 9 February 2015

You Beauty Discovery is a subscription beauty box that sends you generous samples each month of new/hyped/cult beauty brands.  Its a great way to discover new brands and to try expensive products that you may not get chance to try otherwise.

Firstly I am going to discuss what I thought of the samples I got in January.

I chose the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil and the AFYNA Detoxifying Body Scrub.  It also came with some samples of Dragonfly tea, which I haven't tried as I am not sure whether they contain caffeine or not, a sample of Dove BB Cream which I'll try when my hair needs a pick me up and a £25 Hello Fresh Voucher.  I never end up using these as there is never a delivery time that suits my working hours.

Any way lets start with the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil.

Even though I had read positive reviews I was still wary of using an oil on my face as I struggle with combination skin and thought that it may make my skin greasy.
Also it is the first time I have used an oil cleanser and the thought of using the oil on dry skin to remove my makeup seemed really alien to me.
However, I was really surprised with how the the oil cleared my skin of makeup.
I used several drops of the oil, massaged it onto my face and the removed it with a muslin cloth and warm water.
It left my skin feeling silky smooth and not oily at all and removed my makeup with ease.
I did use some of my Garnier Micellar Water to make doubly sure my mascara was removed but I didn't really need to.
Overall I was really happy with the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil and think its a product I would definitely use it in the future.
200ml is currently £18.50 on DHCUK.co.uk but normally retails at £21.
Its on sale till the end of February.
It is a little pricey compared to the skin care products I normally buy but because you only use a small amount a bottle would last for quite some time!
If you have any recommendations for products that are a little less pricey but just as good then please let me know!
My budget isn't so huge when it comes to skincare so anything that works great for not so much money is a bonus for me!

AFYNA isn't a brand I heard of before picking this sample but I was sold after researching it.
It contains Apricot Kernels which help polish away dead skin cells and a combination of five essential oils the create a heady aroma which helps to detoxify and relax the body and mind.
It also claims to help reduce the signs of cellulite which is a bonus in my eyes!
Scrubs are one of my favourite skincare products and I would highly recommend this one.
The apricot kernels give the right level of exfoliation and leave the skin feeling soft and smooth and not stinging like its been too coarse on the skin.
I also love the aroma of the mixture of essential oils and found that it relaxed me after a long day on the slopes (I took it away skiing with me!)
You can buy it from www.afyna.co.uk for £17.
As with the DHC its quite pricey but in my eyes I think its worth it as a treat product.
It isn't a product that I would use daily but save for when I needed to relax and destress.
Again if you know of a similar product with a lower price point then please let me know!

I'm so glad I got the opportunity to try these products.
Because they are more high end they are not something I would have considered trying as I would be put off by the price and be worried that I wouldn't like them.
However I was really pleased with both products and would definitely consider buying both of them in the future if I had some spare cash lying around!

This month there is a great range of products to choose from again.

Proto-col Moisturising Facial Gel 20ml
L'Occitane En Provence Almond Delicious Hands 10ml
Kiss The Moon After Dark Bath Oil 3ml
Kiss The Moon After Dark Face Oil 3ml
Josh Wood Colour Blending Wand in Dark Brown, Light Brown, or Blonde 28ml
In.Fused Coconut Body Scrub 100g
Age Defy+ 24 Hour Moisturiser 10ml

There there is also a sample of a Bare Minerals Foundation and a little packet of Lindor chocolates which I know from past experience are delicious.

This month I've decided to go for the 'In.Fused Coconut Body Scrub' and the Kiss The Moon After Dark Face Oil.

I LOVE a body scrub and the In.Fused claims to eliminate impurities such as stretch marks and dry skin which is great for me as I have both.
It contains Robusta Seed Coffee, Brown Sugar and Coconut Oil, all known for their positive benefits on the skin.
I'm really looking forward to giving it a try and if it's as good as the AFYNA one above then I'll be happy!

After my positive experience with the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil I thought it would be worth giving the Kiss The Moon After Dark Face Oil a try.
The blurb says 'Prepare for a good nights rest and nourish your skin and soul.'
Quite a bold comment to make but with its blend of oils including apricot kernel, wheat germ and rosehip and also vitamins A and E, it sounds like it might be justified.
There are three signature blends, Clam, Glow and Love, which will help you relax from the days stresses whilst supporting the body's night time cell repair.
I'm really looking forward to using it as part of my evening skincare routine to see if can help me drift off to sleep easier and help my skin!

I've actually received my items already and can't wait to get testing them!

What do you think of my picks?
Let me know if you would have chosen something different.
I can't wait to share with you what I think of this months products!
