Summer Camping Trip

Created with Canva
This weekend I'm heading to the lake district for a weekend of camping.
I've camped from a young age as my mum is a Scout Leader so there was no way of getting out of it!
If I'm honest though I've had some of the best experiences camping.  Nothing can beat sitting around a proper fire talking the night away with your favourite people.

Its a while since I last camped and that was at a festival about a year ago so I thought I'd make a list of the essentials you need to take to make sure you have a fun and safe time and also add a few fun things too to make it a great experience!

Equipment

You need to take certain things to make sure you will have a comfortable weekend.  If you are going in a group like we are you will not necessarily need to take everything as you can share the bulky stuff between everyone.
  • Tent
  • Sleeping bag
  • Pillows
  • Blankets
  • Fire bucket / BBQ
  • Wood / Charcoal
  • Pots and pans
  • Gas stove
  • Scissors
  • Knives
  • Plates and Bowls
  • Cutlery
  • Cups (Plastic or metal are best as they won't break easily!)
  • Bin Bags
  • Washing up bowl
  • Washing up liquid
  • Sponges
  • Tinfoil
  • Chairs

Clothes

When packing your clothes I would say don't take anything that you would be upset about ruining.  You're going to be living outside and be around fires.  Your clothes will end up smelling so bad and probably with holes and rips in them!
  • T-Shirts
  • Jumpers
  • Underwear
  • Socks (Fluffy ones for sleeping in and cotton ones for during the day)
  • Old trainers
  • Waterproof Coat
  • Hat
  • Scarf
  • Glove
  • Swimming Costume

Essentials

I'm sure there's something I've forgotten here so please let me know if I have!
I find these items are essential to best maintain your cleanliness and protect you from the elements.  There have been so many times I have been camping where people have forgotten suncream and had to borrow mine after they have burnt so badly on the first day! Its really not worth the pain!
  • Baby Wipes
  • Hand Sanitiser
  • Dry Shampoo
  • Hair Brush
  • Hair ties (I always seem to misplace mine!)
  • Toilet Roll
  • Suncream
  • Aftersun
  • Moisturiser
  • Shower Gel
  • Towel
  • First Aid Kit
  • Toothbrush/Toothpaste
  • Bug Spray
  • Citronella candles (to keep the bugs away too!)

Food/Kitchen

You can take whatever you want food wise but you need to think carefully just to make sure you don't take things that will go off quickly and potentially make you poorly (unless you eat them the on the first day or two and keep them in a cool box!)
We are taking bacon and sausages but we will freeze them before we go then keep them in a cool box to make sure they are ok to eat over the weekend.
We are only going to be there for one full day really so they should be ok!
It depends on your own tastes what you take but below are a few ideas that we might be taking with us this weekend.
  • Packet Rice
  • Baked Beans
  • Tinned Food
  • Knife
  • Scissors
  • Tin Opener
  • Fruit
  • Crisps
  • Biscuits
  • Chocolate/Sweets
  • Bread
  • Bottled Water
  • Soft Drinks

Extras

These can depend on the area you are camping with and on the people who are going!
This weekend is our friends 30th birthday so we are having a celebration for him and there's canoes involved!
Remember though to follow the rules of your campsite / area and don't put yourself in any danger!
  • Canoes
  • Music Player
  • Power Pack (So you can keep the music flowing and phones charged!)
  • Cards
  • Games
  • Books
  • Alcohol (remember to drink safely!)
Now I've made my list I can't wait for the weekend!
I've probably listed far too many things and you could probably get away with not taking it all (I probably won't be when my boyfriend see's it!) but I always like to be prepared and I am definitely an over packer!

The weathers meant to be nice (although I've probably jinxed it now I've said it!) and I'm ready to get away into the lovely lake district to relax and unwind for a few days!

Have I missed anything off my list?

Are you a camper or is there something else you'd rather do to relax?
Have you any interesting campfire stories you'd like to share?
